Anyway this was the conversation discussing how we should handle the Sec 3 Video from Performance Night.
Feng has a SUPER LONG script, and expects our actors to speak as fast as him.
But first, we start off by talking random technical hulaoeicubrjanbaaloo:
17:36 Feng: you have memory stick?
cos you editing
17:39 me: huh?
16 minutes
17:56 Feng: you bring memory stick
me: i dun have
i use jvc
17:57 not sony
jvc uses mem card not stick
17:58 Feng: shoos
shoots
who have mem stick sia
me: kk
17:59 Feng: he have aj
ah
k
then he bring
me: huh
he asked us wad kind to bring
dunno if he received
my reply
18:00 Feng: so..........?
me: you call
any memory stick will do
best if its sony {Feng gets owned, starting from... uh... now.}
18:04 script is seriously too long
18:05 Feng: ?
can lah
when act out fast one
cos talk only
7 minutes
18:12 me: really?
talk only?
Feng: yeah...
me: no video?
Feng: one sentence about 20 sec
as in acted in video
18:13 me: ok nvm
18:15 the talking parts consist of 1360 of the 1999 words in the document
Feng: .
me: which means 340 word pm
5 words per second
no breaks
Feng: lol
me: continuous speach
18:16 speech
it's seriously too long
serious
Feng: i go ask for others opinion
me: make its less comedy while you're doing that
comedic
18:17 Feng: huh
but hadi say funny eh
me: less comedy, more tragedy
abraham song funny enough
Feng: but ending not funny wha
one song only
me: barney is waste of time
18:18 Feng: lol
few secs only
me: ok... you used "barney song" in the script
Feng: lol
me: not just the words
sorry
Feng: i type out the part k?
me: "abraham song" is also used
which is repeated a few times
18:19 which bring the no. words up to...
brings
to..
hold on...
7 wps
18:20 Feng: oh yeah
me: whee
Feng: we try first lah
is cant can cut a bit in editing
if
18:21 me: average talking speed is 125 to 150 words per minute
2 wps
18:22 Feng: so.....?
me: 600 words in 4 minutes
Feng: ppl can talk at same time
me: not including pauses
Feng: hmmm
so you think it needs to be cut in half
me: lets keep to 400-500
Feng: see first lah
18:23 dunno what to take out
me: type the script without actions first - easier to count
for the singing, can play as background
18:24 Feng: true
me: for vids, make a timeline of how long you want the scenes to be
18:25 Feng: ok
i go change
me: eg. war - 40s
but 40s is ridiculous
spelling
18:26 Feng: ?
ignore my horrible spelling first :P
me: my spelling lah
ridiculous
18:27 o wait...
i spelled correctly {and now Feng gets saved by Hadi} Feng: oh
lol
18:30 yay
hadi increased to 10 min
18:33 me: yay
Feng: whats the part abt 40s
me: huh?
18:34 oh
make a timeline
eg intro 30secs
bonding 2min
Feng: ok
i make it into scene by scene
me: war 40secs
yeah
Feng: huh
18:35 why need so long for war
me: that's why its ridiculous
Feng: :)
oh
me: 10mins is going to be big file
Feng: dun care liao lah
mac got big memory
18:36 me: 500+ Mb
Feng: send liao lo
me: depending on vid quality

18:37 It will take 1h to export :)
even on a mac
how do movies do it?
maybe several comps
18:38 k
a
n
g
Feng: lol
me: i got 3d animation background so we can have really cool effects
18:39 in the vid
like knife dropping on the floor
or samurai sword for that matter
18:40 Feng: kk
yeah
18:42 me: or a 10s war scene
18:43 i got lots of ideas from the learning journey day

Don't take your spacebar for granted.
Without it, you'll have to Ctrl+V everytime . y o u . w a n t . t o . t y p e . a . d a m n . w o r d .
Sigh... It took me 40 seconds to type that.
And it took me the entire day to type Camp Report.
That's life.

.:: Learning Journey Day ::.
Thursday, May 7, 2009
Yesterday was learning journey day. First we went to Labrador Park for the Battlefield study tour. First stop was the magazine (a place where ammunition is stored) with 3 doors. It was called “Magazine with 4 Doors”.
Well, the last door led to a blasted room which was closed during WWII, and only recently discovered.
Our tour guide also explained the dangers of shells, especially since Labrador Battery was so near the shore. “That steel door behind you is about a feet thick,” the tour guide says, pointing at the decomposing wooden door closest to us. “In those days shrapnel would penetrate that hard, solid door and kill soldiers inside.”
I borrowed a pen from my classmate Amir and started randomly drawing stuff. My group was brought under pavilion a few stops later. The centre of the pavilion had a mosaic of a seashell.
How apt.
Then she started talking about Amir-Piercing Shells that could drill through vessels, then explode when inside. How more of those were used compared to High-Explosive Shells at Labrador Battery.
Hilarious.
Anyway we went to Bukit Chandu Centre where we remembered the Malay Regiment that fought at Pasir Panjang. Then super cool video!
Wait for the animation to come out - its worth it!
